We know our clients would love to bring their cars, trucks, SUVs, and other vehicles to Pitt Stop Auto every day to get cleaned out and looking fresh and new. We also know that isn’t really an option for them. While our team can take care of every nook and cranny in your vehicle, you need tips and tricks for how to take care of everything in between visits to our shop. This is true for all types of interiors, including your leather seats.

Clear the Debris

The first step of any cleaning is to clear debris out of the way. Grab a plastic bag and throw away everything that is trash, even if it isn’t on your seats. This will help your car look cleaner right away and you will appreciate every aspect of your car even more. From there, use a dry cloth or a vacuum to remove additional dirt, dust, and debris. Be careful with the vacuum, make sure the nozzle is in good working order, so you don’t scratch your seats. If there is grime or build up, do not use bleach or ammonia-based cleaners. You can use a commercial leather cleaner or mix 5 parts of warm water with 1 part of liquid dishwashing soap, applying only as much as is needed to clean the surface. Wipe clean with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly.

Condition and Care

Regular care is important to keep leather seats looking their best. A leather conditioner should be applied regularly. Make sure this has a sunscreen in it to prevent cracking and fading, especially in our hot and sunny climate. This will also protect your leather from getting dirty as a barrier is created when it is regularly conditioned. If something is spilled on the leather, it is best to clean it right way, before the leather is damaged or a stain sets in. According to HGTV, if your leather gets scuffed, a small dab of toothpaste might help, “use a toothbrush to gently scrub away the stain.”
