Stay Clean on the Go: How to Maintain Your Car’s Interior During a Road Trip

Packing lists are made. Neighbors are notified to watch the house. Reservations are confirmed. It is time for your summer road trip. Preparing for a road trip involves more than being ready for the ultimate destination or all the sightseeing adventures along the way though. One of the best things you can do is to enjoy the miles in the car, taking in the journey. To increase that enjoyment, you will want to consider a few tips from Pitt Stop Detail & Auto Sales on how to keep your interior clean on the go.

  1. Pick up. The best tip we have is for you to pick up your trash as you go. Most road trips will involve a fairly regular stop for stretching legs, restroom breaks, and to fill up the tank with gas. When you are exiting the freeway for that next stop, have everyone look around their seat for trash. Taking a minute or two for a quick tidy, conveniently thrown away as you run into your favorite drink stop, will keep the mess from feeling overwhelming at the end.

  2. Clean your glass. When you are filling up your tank, you may want to check your windshield, inside and out. It is easy to go ahead and wipe away bug and road residue from our windshields while getting more gas. You should also pack glass wipes or a  microfiber towel to clean the inside of your windshield. This will help your vehicle stay clean and increase your visibility, making it a safer drive.

  3. Spot treat. Knowing how to spot treat your vehicle’s interior is pretty important for daily driving and big road trips. Whether you have vinyl interior or you are thinking about cloth mats, you should consider carrying a clean cloth or two and a small bottle of interior spot treatment for when spills occur. There are just too many opportunities for ice cream droplets, french fry grease, or candy residue as you work to make it to your next stop.

  4. Prepare for emergencies. Unfortunately, kids and adults can have emergencies along the way and you can’t always pull over when the worst hits. You can be prepared for emergencies with an extra towel, trashbag, change of clothes, and water. Having these stowed away in the trunk will help make cleaning up an accident a little bit easier.

  5. Extras. Some road trips may need a little extra help to keep the car clean. Families with small kids who need lots of in car entertainment will want some sort of storage that is accessible. Those same families may consider an extra seat protector. Make sure it is compatible with a car seat if necessary. Our extra tidy friends may get a handheld vacuum that can plug into the car for little messes that happen along the way. A designated trash can for your road trip may help with peace of mind too.

Once you are done with your road trip, as great of a job as you’ve done along the way, bring your car to Pitt Stop Detail & Auto Sales for a full wash and detailing. We can reach all the little places you might have missed along the road and we will restore your vehicle to sparkling new. You, and your hard working vehicle, deserve it.
