The Benefits of Regularly Waxing Your Car

We all love to have our car looking spic and span. It simply feels great to drive around in a car that is shiny and clean without a single spec of dust or grime inside. The fact of the matter is that a clean car can take a little bit of work, but with a plan to have your car regularly waxed, that clean car feeling will last much longer. Pitt Stop Detail & Auto Sales can help you retain that sparkling clean feel.

What does waxing do?

Wax comes in many forms, from a spray wax to liquid to paste, they are applied in different ways, but the results are the same. They are applied to the vehicle, usually in a circular fashion, focusing on an even coating. Once removed with a clean and dry cloth, a barrier of wax, sealing your vehicle, is left behind.

Why does it help my car stay clean?

Wax helps your vehicle stay clean in two ways. First, wax helps your car stay clean by creating a protective barrier or coating over the paint or exterior of your car. This barrier will protect your car from dirt and debris that tends to land on your vehicle in the course of a day. Water will also bead up and be repelled by the wax if it starts to rain. Second, your car is easier to clean with the wax coating in place. The contaminants don’t stick as much to the wax coating and it is easier to wash and dry your vehicle.

How else does it help?

Wax is ultimately a barrier and it can help in a number of different ways. A coat of wax can help protect your vehicle from the harmful UV rays of the sun which can fade and damage your paint. The barrier of wax can also protect your vehicle from other damaging properties. AutoZone warns that there are “small pores in your car’s paint [that] can allow moisture to penetrate under the surface and corrode metal underneath.” By waxing regularly, you can protect the car’s finish on the surface and underneath.

When should I get it done?

AutoZone also recommends that you have your car waxed every 3 to 6 months. In a climate like ours, it may lean closer to the 3 month mark rather than the 6 month mark. The wax applied to your vehicle will be taking the brunt of the sun, rain, debris, and dust just by doing its job. The more exposure to these elements, the sooner it will start to wear down. Your car should be clean when you get it waxed and the cleaner the vehicle underneath, the better the application will be. Pitt Stop Detail & Auto Sales can take this task off your hands by doing a full detail and wax of your car, truck, SUV, or van.
