5 Ways to Protect Your Car’s Paint

A vehicle can serve many purposes. Many feel their car may be a number of things, whether the vehicle of your dreams, a place for memory building on trips, an extension of your work place, or some other descriptor. Even if you only have a car for a utilitarian purpose, of transporting yourself, others, and items from one place to another, your car is an investment. Because you have invested in your car, it’s a good idea to protect that investment with the best possible care, from the inside out, all the way to the paint.

  1. Park in the shade. It is well known that the sun can damage your skin and the appearance of items left in reach of harmful rays, but we often forget this fact when it comes to our vehicles. Obviously we cannot drive with a huge shade over us at all times, but when you have the opportunity to choose a spot with shade or under cover, it’s helpful to do so. Newroads Automotive Group contends, “Not only will shade help to keep your car cool, but it will also help keep your paint from fading.”

  2. Cover your car. This point goes well in hand with the point above, when leaving your car for a longer period of time, you may consider a cover conveniently stowed away in the trunk of your vehicle. On days you may leave your car out for an extended amount of time, especially during the summer months, you can quickly use it to protect the paint of your car.

  3. Clear your car of debris. Sticks, waste from animals, bugs, tree sap, and other items constantly accumulate on your vehicle. These items can be detrimental to your paint job, whether they cause microscopic scratches in the paint that build up over time or whether the chemical components break down the finish. By taking a few moments each morning or as necessary to brush off what may have fallen on your car, you can extend the life and quality of your vehicle’s appearance.

  4. Park in the garage. Combining points, a garage can help protect your car from harmful damage from the sun and it can help eliminate debris which can hurt your paint job. Additionally, a garage can help protect the entire vehicle in the event of a storm or other natural event which can hurt not only your paint job, but the body of your car, too. According to Newroads Automotive Group, parking in the garage ensures “[y]our tires and headlights will also endure less wear and tear.”

  5. Wash your car often. Not only does washing your car make the exterior look clean, when done right, there are many steps that can protect and refresh your car’s paint. By making sure all residue and grime have been removed, you can prevent any future damage from those aspects of the car. Waxing also creates a protective barrier for the vehicle.
